I heard this last night and it resonated deeply.
It sounds like it might be saying “It’s hard to build something solid when the person or circumstances that you’re building with are inconsistent”.
But it means something entirely different to me.
To me, any time you try to build your home outside of yourself, the sands will always shift.
It is incredibly unfair & unrealistic to build something based on someone never changing and never growing.
Anything. A relationship, a business, a friendship etc.
This is the basis of much of the distortion in relationships.
“I am agreeing to be part of this based on who you are now, and as long as you stay who you are, I will agree to trust you and remain here with you”
But they never will. And if they try to, their soul will die.
The irony is we will also shift and change, and when we can accept that, we can build a dexterous house internally, that can shift with the change, and rearrange itself based on the current environment - much like buildings that are constructed to accommodate for the weather.
This is what it means to be fluid. The minute we attach to “how things are” we have already lost ground.
There is only one place that doesn’t really shift, and that is deeeeeep within you. Like the heart of the ocean, that remains placid and calm no matter what the storms are doing overhead. THIS is where we can attach to.
This is true safety.
This is a place we can trust.
This is where to build our home.
